You might think being stuck inside your house is a little boring but imagine if what your stuck inside is a cell for most of the day. Here a quick glimpse of my last week.
Extreme Spring Clean
A prison cell is a confining space with limited storage. There is only so much stuff you can have to hand at any one time. I’ve learned to manage my property seasonally, Summer starts in April when the central heating is switched off for the year, while Winter kicks in when the clocks go back in October.
Under my bed I have a large property box where I store my out of season clothes, rotating them for half a year at a time, like the polar sun. This year the Covid lockdown made me take a deeper look at my property. I handed off one Winter coat, two jumpers and a few other items that I hadn’t worn since they came out of hibernation. I packed the rest away, unpacked the shorts, t-shirts, desk fan and other Summer essentials. That accounted for one day of Covid lock-up.
Bored, I decided to strip and paint my cell. Two days.
I messed about with furniture layouts. One day.
I sorted a tub of 500 drawing pins into their respective colours, red, blue, green, white and yellow – then stored each colour in an individual bag. Half a day.
You see the problem I’m having is that the lockdown has coincided with a lull in my activity level. For the past year I have been frantic, not a minute to spare. I’ve been working full-time at my regular job while doing a number of support roles. I’ve been studying hard and trying to find time to complete Open University assignments. But now, just as I have so much spare time, my last assignment has been submitted. I’m chuffed that I have 120 O.U. points in the bag, but it’s just ironic that now I have the time I just don’t need it.
I was bored.
But you will be glad to know that I’ve had a word with myself and am managing to maintain a routine. I get up early (still) and from 8AM to 10PM I do 20 press-ups and 20 air squats on the hour, every hour.
I find it much easier to find something to do for an hour rather than something to fill a whole day, although I don’t think the full manscape will happen again. The Kanga got a real fright when he opened my observation panel at the wrong moment – he’s been self-isolating since!!
